Reefton – Ikamatua – Kumara – The Wilderness Trail (Kawhaka Pass) - Hokitika

Left Reefton new years day,   ride up  to the  Waiuti, a Deserted gold mine town not much left there but had several thousand people there in the thirty's, one of the biggest gold mines at the time….. all things must pass…..ride on to Just south west of Ikamatua, camp in a Quarry by the river…….rode into Grey mouth….supplies….then start  the wilderness bicycle trail, Greymouth to Ross,  which does an inland loop taking in stunning rainforest lakes mountain ranges and rivers,  a few klms on the coast, then inland to Kumara, ask a fellow splitting firewood about,   Goldsbrough  doc camp we were  looking for,  we were miles away, Paul happened to be  one of the major instigators of the  wilderness  trail and let us camp at his place……got some great insights into the area……Paul hand splits and stacks a mile of harwood…in his spare time, used to be the headmaster here and is involved in many community  causes. Leave Paul and Joanne's  place in the morning to complete the trail, wild camp in some beautiful rainforest, beside a raging cascade. head early end up going off track 20ks, then picked up again, through cowboy paradise, lake kanerie, then to Hokatiki, leave today the 6th january, had a little .4 earthquake this morning,.....for about thirty seconds centered around Methven.
